The Program Teaching Goals
(adjusted to students’ age/grade/skill level)
- Understand opera as storytelling through music
- Explore character, emotion, and motive using familiar fables
- Connect sound, movement, and drama to narrative meaning
- Strengthen listening, collaboration, and expressive skills
- Participate in a shared artistic experience culminating in a group performance
- Can include an advanced vocal/performance skills component for older students with performing arts interest.
Grade Levels
- For 2nd-12th Grades
- Longer sessions for older students
- Can be for classes with no arts background
- Can be for classes or groups of specialized performing arts students
When & Frequency of Visits:
- 2-3 visits per week by Opera Modesto’s Teaching Artists
- 3-4 weeks duration
- 40-90 minute sessions, depending on age/grade level
- Available dates begin in late April, through the end of the school year
- Summer programs also possible
