THE RACE movie and graphic novel are centered on “The Tortoise and the Hare,” who then become entangled with “The Bear and the Bees,” “The Hares and the Frogs,” “The Fox and the Grapes,” and “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.”
Both the international award winning movie and the graphic novel are a delightful and educational treat for all ages. Younger children are fascinated, often watching it over and over, stopping to act out the scenes with their own invented or imagined scenery and costumes. Teens and adults are startled to see the 19 diverse youth artists (ages 11-19) performing opera so earnestly and with such obvious enthusiasm. All find themselves humming the tunes. The graphic novel features stylized photos from the filming of the movie helping to tell the story of each of the five Aesop’s Fables. It can be used as a reading and English as a Second Language literacy tool, as inspiration for Reader’s Theater, or enjoyed on its own merits.
