“Goodnight Moon” is an intimate concert featuring Los Angeles-based soprano Emily Gallagher and Eugene-based pianist Andrew Pham. The performance features music that highlights the moon as an important character and source of inspiration. The program includes operatic favorites such as Rusalka’s “Song to the Moon,” Broadway showtunes from musicals like The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Debussy’s famous piano solo Clair de lune, and even a musical setting of the classic children’s book Goodnight Moon, by beloved choral composer Eric Whitacre who wrote the piece for his wife to sing as a lullaby to their young son.

Audience members will enjoy an immersive experience that combines live music with a planetarium show, exploring the many ways the moon appears and influences music. In addition to its public performance, Goodnight Moon will be presented in collaboration with Modesto Junior College in an educational performance and with a talk-back exclusively for arts, humanities, and science students.

This program is presented by the Great Valley Museum and Planetarium and Opera Modesto in collaboration with Modesto Junior College.
